Fi Series 2 GPS Tracker Smart Dog Collar Review

Pros

• System works quickly when detecting an escaping dog, alerting you at the right time.
• Longer battery life due in part to the WiFi enhancements that take some pressure off of the battery
• Ability to track your dog’s sleeping habits and detect any potential health problems that are affecting your dog as he sleep
• Serves as an active social network for dogs, which shows the tracker’s battery level and where your dog is currently located
• Strong, reinforced hardware that protects the collar from damage caused by dogs who are brawny leash pullers

Cons

• It will not work well for dogs under 10 pounds or for cats since the smallest collar size is measured for necks that are 11.5 to 13.5 inches in circumference
• This smart collar has a moderate learning curve, and when you create your dog’s profile, it does not differentiate between their birthdate and adoption date, potentially skewing their age

Reinforced Hardware

If you have a dog that tries to destroy its collar, then the Fi Series 2’s reinforced internal metal and faceplate made from durable aluminum can help prevent that. It will stop bites and scuffs from causing damage. Its IP68 water/dust rating means that the Fi Series 2 can resist dust and can even be submerged in five feet of water for up to half an hour. Dogs can even wear these collars to the beach since they have the ability to resist saltwater spray. It also has a static pull force resistance of 300 pounds.

WiFi Capabilities

The Fi Series 1 collar relied solely on Bluetooth technology to track your dog indoors through either the Fi charging base or any designated owner’s phone. This was because of GPS’ unreliability indoors. WiFi does better than Bluetooth inside, and this unit actually supports up to six networks at once. This is more ideal for dogs who go to doggy daycare or live in a large home.

Three Month Battery Life

When inside the house, within WiFi range or when your dog is on a walk with you while you have your phone, this collar’s battery can last for up to three months on one charge. Of course, if your dog is out of the WiFi or Bluetooth range or you don’t have your phone with you, LTE-M (a low-power wide-area cellular network) and GPS will kick in to keep track of your dog’s location.

Lost Dog Mode

Should your dog become lost, Lost Dog mode will kick in via GPS and LTE. When it does, the battery will have a lifespan of up to two days. The Fi collar will utilize all network signals to give you the timeliest possible notification that your dog has gotten out. You should test out Lost Dog mode [1] as soon as you can to ensure it is working properly.

Linking Instagram

If your dog has their own Instagram account, you can link it to the Fi while setting up its collar. The photo that you add to the Fi profile can come from your phone (from either your gallery or you can just take a picture on the spot) or from Instagram. Linking your dog’s IG account essentially creates a social network for them via their Fi Series 2. You can access it by going to the Discover tab. 

Rankings

Clicking the Rank tab will show how your dog stacks up against others in their social network based on the previous 28 days of activity. Go to the leaderboards to see breakdowns by overall rank, breed rank, your state, and your city.

Sleep Monitoring

With its ability to monitor your dog’s sleep, the Fi smart dog collar Series 2 can detect potential health conditions that impact your dog while they are snoozing. You can also see the amount of time that your dog has spent sleeping during the night. This gets differentiated from daytime naps too.

Safe Zone

You can designate safe zones for your dog. As soon as your dog leaves one, the Fi GPS dog collar app will send you a push-button notification. You can opt for push and text alerts by going into the Alerts tab, or you can just totally turn them off. The escape alert should take somewhere between two and three minutes to send you a notification.
